It is an Aum written in Tamil script and it is considered a mystical syllable in the Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religions. The Aum is considered the first sound the universe made when it was born and is why it is used in meditation - to connect back to the universe.
I don't meditate but it looks like a skull to me and I like that....
